Selfie Sunday and Apologies

About 4 weeks ago I took this pic as a joke for hubs. Turned out the joke was on me after I landed in the hospital later that night. I’m not dead, I’m not ignoring messages or comments or posts, I’m just a little sore (still) and trying to get my life back on track.

This will sound incredibly silly, but I had severe heat/sun stroke and severe second degree sunburns across my neck, back, shoulders and both legs after working outside at my parents home. I didn’t even know sunburn could be so bad they would talk about possible skin grafting. (We did Not need to go that route, thankfully.) Anyhow, parents home is 500 miles away. I wasn't hospitalized the entire time, but there was no way I could drive my van/kids back home on my own until few days ago. It took 2 days for my knees to forgive me for the trip as it is. My autistic child still hasn't forgiven Mommy for her stint with stupid and has to be touching me at all times to make sure I'm okay. His healing will probably take a little longer. :(

For anyone wondering, I did have on sunscreen (SPF 50). I did drink water. I just ignored a lot of other ‘signs’ that things weren’t going so well. (Once the power tools start overheating after 15 minutes use it might be too hot out for you, too. We won't go into the hallucinations about the belt sander and high torque drill and their conspiracy to overthrow me at the annual power tools ball. O_o)

Sitting at my computer hurts my shoulders and my knees quite a bit still so I’m not back at this moment, despite being at my home again.  But I feel horrible about not responding to all the things I see going on. If you’ve messaged/commented/posted and haven’t had a response please be patient just a little while longer. Healing at home is better, but it will still take some time. <3

I goatta say, I'm very happy you're not dead. And I'm very glad you're out of the hospital and recovering well. Sun stroke is serious business. There's always PSA's around here about how to take care of yourself in the heat but even that sometimes isn't enough.

Your son will forgive you eventually. It's nice to see he cares about you so much <3. When my mom got out of surgery last fall we took turns trying to make her laugh because we knew it hurt.

    1. I'm pretty happy I'm not dead too. Ha! And yeah. Those things are on TV's and we all laugh and point. Should have been watching instead.

He's a big ole sweetheart and *such* a Mama's boy. Mama hurting hurt his tender little heart too much.

Ha! I'm sure your mom thanked you SO much for that! lol!

  2. I know I haven't commented yet, but I've been reading and catching up with your story here. And I just wanted to offer sympathy and hope for a speedy recovery. That's crazy how bad it got even though you were wearing sunscreen!

    1. Aw, thank you! I hope you're enjoying it. LOL! It gets better. It's a pretty rough read at first. :)

If I'd taken a break of any kind it probably wouldn't have been nearly as awful. Or have worked in the shade. But but but... Thank you!

  3. It's easy to forget yourself when using powertools.... but I'm glad to hear you survived the sunburns and heatstroke (and hallucinations). It doesn't sound silly either, it sounds terrible. It's interesting how we keep our kids out of the sun, so they won't get fever and sunburns, but forget it can get to hot for yourself to.

Good to hear your recovering, just take your time. I hope your son starts feeling better about the situation soon to, but it's sweet to see that he cares so much about you.

    1. Yes it is! Powertools=FUN! Oh gosh yes. I can't imagine sending my kids out in such heat without a sunscreen, a hat and a timer to make sure they're not out for too long.

Thanks! It's all looking nice and scaly now the new skin is in place. It feels so weird. :/

Buddy is a big old Mama's boy. He can't stand it if I'm not 100%. I bet yours is the same way, and if he isn't I'm sure he will be. <3 (BTW- his American girlfriend can't wait to meet him one day. ;) )

  4. Yikes, I saw the pose on tumblr a little while ago (I can't work out commenting on there, so I'll comment on here) I hope you're getting better <3 and I hope your son's okay too, it must be quite a shock for him too :(

That hallucination of yours kinda sounds like it came out of one of those weird fairytales and your the evil stepmother or something o_O or maybe you're Cinderella and the power tools are keeping you from going to the power tool ball, haha, but seriously I hope you're okay again soon, and that your son recovers from your incident also :)

    1. I'm doing lots better. Only sad that my lovely smooth legs and shoulders look all scaly and weird now. Ha! And Nathan's getting better. He's still getting upset a little too fast if I don't smile or look as happy as he thinks I ought to be, but it's better than it was.

Lol. It was more of I was the evil dictator who forced them all into submission and slavery while all they wanted to do was play. HA!

  5. *hugs* I'm so glad that you are okay! I just now saw this---as I am behind in everything yet again. Poor kiddo too, they sure don't like anything out of the ordinary to happen. (We've gone through something similar with my autistic brother when my mom had to have surgery---he was not a happy camper!)

I hope the both of you are doing a lot better now. *hugs again*

    1. Aw! Thank you! Oh man. I bet. =( It's so tough when they're already struggling to keep up with everything around them. Change. Yikes. It really messes with them.

We are! Thank you! *big ole hugs back!

  6. Oh dear, that sounds absolutely dreadful! You poor thing. I hope you're fully recovered now (and your son too)! Sorry I got here so late but I guess you know by now that my summer hasn't been treating me kindly either, so I'm really behind on everything.

    *hugs*

    1. Yes! All except for the nasty, scaly look my new skin came with. =( Buddy keeps running his hand up the leg that was burned worst, going from the smooth old skin to the rough new stuff and then shuddering (because he can't stand how it feels.) It's... weird. lol.

Oh yes. Your summer has been worse by far. I truly hope you and your partner are holding up alright still. Though I'm sure it's still fresh and very very tender. You'll make it one day. Time works wonders.

      *hugs

  7. Oh my goodness! I'm just now seeing this! Hopefully you are fully recovered! Jimminy Christmas! What were you doing?! (I'm picturing you using a jack hammer to bust through concrete) Lol.

    1. Yes! All except for the ugly icky new skin. (I'm so vain. lol!)

LOL! I wish it would have been that! That would have been fun! Nothing so exciting for me. Just sanding the old paint off my folks front porch. I managed to get about 30 pickets clean as a whistle. Too bad that was barely a third of the way around. Ha!

    1. I have every intention of doing just that. Ha! I've even got a handy new pop up tent if I need to work outside much. =D
